Pricing & credits
Tanzanite is usage-based and credits-only. There are no subscription plans and no feature tiers: every account has access to every feature, and one prepaid credit balance funds everything the agent does — cloud models, sandboxes, media generation, storage, and cloud-project rent. Everything is priced in USD and itemized to the cent, so there are no surprises: you only pay for what the agent actually uses.
What’s free
Section titled “What’s free”Local projects on the desktop app are genuinely free. The on-device model runs entirely on your machine at no cost — no card, no credits needed. The auto-created General workspace is also free (no daily project rent).
Credits
Section titled “Credits”Credits are prepaid and never expire while your account is active. Top up any time from Account → Billing — you choose the amount at checkout (minimum $5), and the balance appears immediately after payment. Checkout enforces a monthly add cap (default $500 in one UTC calendar month). There is no separate per-purchase or balance ceiling beyond that remaining monthly room; the checkout page shows how much you have left this month if you hit it.
The balance you see is available = credits − reserved − spent. It can go negative (a settle that overshot, a refund, or a bonus clawback) — Tanzanite shows the real number, never a clamped zero. New paid work still won’t start until you add credits.
Auto-reload (optional) tops your balance up automatically from your saved card whenever it runs low, so long tasks are never stopped mid-run for lack of credits. Each reload has a maximum amount. Turn it on at your first purchase and you’ll get bonus credits on that purchase (30%, capped at $50) — the bonus becomes permanently yours after your first automatic reload completes. You can turn auto-reload off any time from the Billing tab.
Anything with a real cloud cost draws from your balance as it runs: cloud model calls, sandbox compute time, media generation, hosted-repo storage, and cloud-project rent (a flat monthly price, charged as a daily slice; the auto-created General workspace and local projects are free). Before paid work starts, Tanzanite places a small hold for the estimated cost and settles the exact amount when the work finishes, so two runs can’t both spend the same dollar. When your balance runs out, the run stops with “You’re out of credits. Add credits to continue.” — nothing keeps charging in the background unless auto-reload is on. Add credits and start a fresh run; only a spend limit you set (per-run or per-project) pauses instead, and resumes where it left off once you raise or remove the limit.
Your Billing tab shows the live balance (including any amount currently held by in-flight runs) and an itemized history of every purchase and charge.
Staff accounts skip the funds gate so internal work isn’t blocked by a $0 wallet. That exemption is not a product tier.
Resource limits
Section titled “Resource limits”Independent of money, each account has resource quotas — concurrent sandboxes, cloud projects, and storage — that keep any one account from monopolizing shared infrastructure. These are generous defaults, not paywalls; if you hit one, the error says exactly which limit you reached.
