Projects
A project is the workspace an agent operates in. Everything an agent does — chats, plans, files, and tool calls — happens inside a project.
Open Projects in the sidebar and click New Project to create one. Your projects also appear in the sidebar so you can switch the active project at any time.

Choosing a setup
Section titled “Choosing a setup”Every project answers the same four questions — where the AI model runs, where your plans and chats are saved, where your files live, and what it needs in order to run. You pick one of three setups when you create it, and the app shows all four facts next to each choice.
Cloud — Files are hosted by Tanzanite; the AI runs in the cloud. Fully managed: nothing is required on your machine, and you can work from the web or your phone. Optionally mirror the files to a folder on your computer. Cloud work is paid for with prepaid credits — see Pricing & credits.
Device — Files stay on this machine; the AI runs in the cloud. Tanzanite opens a native folder picker and requests file-system access to that folder; there is no hosted copy of your files. Your chats and plans are still saved to your account, so you can read them on the web — but a run needs this desktop app open, because that’s where the files are. You can promote it to Cloud later: that adds a hosted repo and changes nothing else.
Local — Everything stays on this machine. The model runs on your computer too, and your chats and plans are stored only there. Free, desktop-only, and a genuine privacy guarantee. It cannot be converted to another setup later, so choose Device instead if you might want your chats on the web one day.
Choosing a local model is a separate decision from the setup: a Cloud or Device project can run on a model on your own machine and still save its chats to your account.
For any project with a folder you can also configure build, run, and dev commands in the project’s settings.
The local bridge
Section titled “The local bridge”When a project has a folder on your machine, the app exposes file-system tools to the agent over the local bridge — a secure WebSocket connection between the app and the agent runtime. The agent can list, read, and write files in that folder only. Sensitive actions surface as approval requests before they run.
